AmeriCorps Hiring…serve at-risk youth

CareerSource Pinellas and CareerSource Tampa Bay have agreed to participate in and administer the AmeriCorps program for 2016. .

Their first step in implementing this program is to recruit 19 AmeriCorps members as full-time staff for this program. Members must be at least 18 years old. Some examples of individuals who might best fit these positions include military retirees, individuals who have been out of the workforce for a while to raise a family, individuals who have just graduated from high school or college, past AARP or Experience Works volunteers, others looking for re-entry into the workforce, etc. Prior to hire, every member will have to undergo a background screening.

Members will serve at-risk youth - some youth will be in-school as we work in partnership with our Science Center and others served will be out of school youth between the ages of 14-24. Members will assist youth by providing career exploration and guidance, mentoring and tutoring, employer engagement activities, and follow-up services after a youth is placed in employment or enrolled in an educational program.

While working as a full-time AmeriCorps member in 2016, members can:

• Earn a living allowance of up to $12,530, in addition to gaining training and valuable work experience.
• Receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for $5775 to help pay for college, graduate school, vocational school or to repay student loans. This scholarship can also be used for other family members.

This is an amazing opportunity to serve our communities. Please reach out to your family and friends if you know of anyone who might be a good fit for these 19 AmeriCorps positions. We plan to hire in early January with work starting immediately. Other part-time AmeriCorps positons may become available after January.
